Many of us have a medicine cabinet full of things to help you deal with bug bites, headaches, and other issues. Did you know that you can replace almost everything with natural remedies like herbs and essential oils? Below is a list of popular essential oils that can support us with most ailments. However, if you have any specific concerns you want to support, you may find different oils that you’d like to get also.

A caution before you throw out everything and start blindly using essential oils. There are some risks if you don’t take your time to learn about them from multiple sources. You can learn about the risks in this article and also learn about some of the dangers in this article.  

Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia)

This calming fragrant floral oil can take the place of many over the counter medications in your medicine cabinet such as anti-inflammatories, anti-itch lotions, sleeping pills, and even allergy medicine. Used correctly, it can reduce skin issues, sinus problems, and support you to sleep better.

Peppermint (Mentha x piperita)

Many people enjoy the delicious minty fragrance of peppermint. It has offered almost instant relief for headaches. It is also supportive in relieving cramps, and other menstrual issues. Peppermint is also commonly used to reduce heartburn (think mints at a restaurant), curb tummy issues, and help with pain.

Tea Tree (Melaleuca alternifolia)

Extracted from the leaves of a tree native to Australia, this oil is very potent and powerful. It’s been used for thousands of years as a treatment for coughs and colds. Plus, it is often used to treat skin issues as it kills bacteria, viruses, and fungi.

Lemon (Citrus x limon)

Many of our modern cleaning products are lemon scented. Lemon is a fresh and clean smelling fragrance that also has cleaning abilities. Recent studies have shown that it does have anti-microbial properties. It’s invigorating smell helps to encourage us to clean, haha. It also works for many other things such as helping reduce acne and disinfecting wounds.

Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globulus)

Just the smell of eucalyptus tells us this is a good healing oil. The medicinal penetrating scent can support healthy breathing, reduce mucus, and support our respiratory system. It also has anti-inflammatory properties, so it’s good for reducing inflammation to sooth muscles and joints. There are many types of eucalyptus so do your research and know which variety is best for your situation.

Frankincense (Boswellia carterii)

Frankincense resin has been known used for thousands of years to support health. The essential oils is supportive to our mind helping to reduce stress and anxiety. It calms inflammation so can support skin conditions. A common misconception is that frankincense essential oil can help with cancer. This is not true! What is true is that there are many types of frankincense that can support us. Do your research!

Rosemary (Salvia rosemarinus)

This deliciously fragrant oil comes from the same rosemary leaves you cook with. You will recognize the scent immediately. It helps improve memory, stimulates hair growth, and repels bugs. It has anti-inflammatory properties which can help to reduce pain.
