Two questions you may be wondering about. What exactly are healing spices and are they worth investing in? Do all spices have healing properties?

Most spices on the market do boast at least some healing properties. However, some are more beneficial than others.

Good Healing Spices to Start

It’s also worth keeping in mind that different spices offer different healing properties. So, if you’re looking to treat a specific ailment, you’ll need to ensure you’re investing in the appropriate spice. Some of the best spices include:

  • Turmeric (Curcuma longa)
  • Cayenne (Capsicum annuum var acuminatum)
  • Cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum)
  • Ginger (Zingiber officinale)

These are just a small selection of healing spices you’ll want to keep in your cupboards.

Are all healing spices made equal?

Unfortunately, not all spices are made equal. Non-organic spices you find on the grocery store shelves are one example. Many of the non-organic spices often have filler ingredients and preservatives added to them. Some manufacturers are simply concerned with making money, rather than offering high quality spices.

So, if you want to ensure you’re getting the best quality, most effective healing spices, you’re going to need to ensure you’re buying from a well-known brand.

Organic spices are better and could even stay fresh longer due to their production and cultivation method.

What types of things could spices help with?

Healing spices can help you in a variety of ways. Each has its own specific healing properties, but they all contain a high level of antioxidants.

These antioxidants can help fight off free radicals, protect against heart disease and other serious conditions, and keep you looking and feeling younger for longer. They also contain great anti-inflammatory properties which can help with allergies and even help to combat Alzheimer’s Disease.

Due to the strength of many spices, they can also be used to boost the metabolism. This really aids in weight loss, while also helping to provide a delicious kick when added to your meals.

Grow Your Own Spices

Depending on where you live you can grow a wide variety of spices.

If you live in a tropical, warmer climate consider ginger. It is a tropical plant that won’t dry well in colder climates outdoors. Anything below about 55° F and the root won’t grow. Although you can grow it indoors in a pot. You may not realize you can cultivate the ginger root that you purchase at the store. Purchase a root that has several fingers. Use the ones you want for cooking and save the others for planting.

Cayenne and other pepper plants will grow well in most climates so are a great addition to your healing garden.

Now you have an idea of what healing spices are and how they can benefit your health. Each has its own healing properties, so it’s worth stocking up on different types of spices to add to your pantry. They can be used in so many ways and provide a healthy and flavorful option for your recipes.
